Storage and serving

Storage tips

Temperature, packaging and age: simple care preserves aroma and texture.

Practical guide

Store it well, enjoy it at its best

Parmigiano Reggiano should be refrigerated between 4 and 8°C. Storage time and method depend on whether the package is still sealed or has been opened.

Sealed vacuum pack

Keep the product refrigerated between 4 and 8°C. Make sure the bag remains properly sealed, intact and protected from air. Always follow the best-before date printed on the package.

After opening

Place the cheese in a food-safe glass or plastic container, or wrap it carefully in food-grade film. Keep it away from strongly aromatic foods, as the fat can absorb odours.

Approximate storage times

Once opened, Parmigiano Reggiano aged 12–18 months keeps for approximately 15 days. From 24 months onwards, its drier texture allows storage for about one month. Check the product regularly.

The longer the cheese has aged, and therefore the drier it is, the better and longer it keeps.

Before serving

Take out only what you need

Reseal the remainder immediately and return it to the refrigerator. Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not freeze individual portions, as this can alter the cheese’s texture.
